iFad: How Keyboarding Will Die a Toxic Death

Copyright 2012, John Manimas Medeiros

Keyboarding and computer addiction will suddenly lose its charm and soon fade into the dustbin of history, because it is intellectually destructive -- it makes people stupid. Keyboarding for "information" short-circuit’s the processing of information that occurs when a person is reading, and therefore keyboarding, or screen searching and texting, severely reduce the important kinds of personal knowledge that develop through the processing of information through reading. Keyboarding, and mouse-clicking and pad-fingering or screen fingering is actually a form of entertainment, a kind of video game. All of these activities are practically the equivalent of playing a video game -- all fingers and no brain. The cost in loss of learning will soon become too great to bear, and people will return to reading in order to really acquire and process and absorb information, in order to really learn. For the human brain, fingering is skating over information, like skating on a static, frozen lake -- instead of swimming in the liquid water of information, which is the intellect-changing processing that is required with reading, and is enjoyed for the great reward of active learning. To confirm that this is a reasonable prediction, discuss this issue regarding reading and computer use with high school and college teachers.
