Ideas For Democracy:  Goal #5

Develop a free-market economic system that removes government involvement in business and business involvement in government.

Citizens who want real democracy will actively support this policy and vote for trustworthy candidates who actively support this policy.

IFD - policy:  Business entities and corporations do not have a constitution.  The Constitution of the United States of America was written by individual human beings and is a statement of the civil rights of people and the form of government they have chosen and the specific powers vested in the government by the people.  It is NOT a document that identifies or provides any form of rights or authority for business entities or corporations.  It is people and people only who possess political and legal status, power and authority.  A business entity has no more protection or authority by means of the Constitution than a tree or a stone or a bridge or a highway.  Persons "in business" and the trustees and officers and owners of a corporation certainly have the same civil rights as persons who are not engaged is the activities of a business entity.  However, the business entities and corporations themselves have no constitution, and no existence as a person with civil rights.  All real persons can claim their rights and duties as persons, but business entities are not invested with political power by the Constitution and they cannot be deemed to have interests that are in any meaningful way separate from and independent of the interests of real, flesh and blood persons.  Business entities should therefore be forbidden to participate in the political process as though they are persons, and all opinion and desire and interests that might be identified as the opinion, desire or interest of a business entity or corporation is inherently politically and legally false.  All opinion, desire and interests that enter into the political process are and must be the opinions, desires and interests of real individual flesh and blood persons, because they and only they possess an existence that is addressed in the Constitution.

The Federal Reserve Bank should be directly controlled by the President and the Congress.  IF the Federal Reserve does continue to be an independent economic institution, then it must be held strictly accountable by federal laws for ALL economic events.  Failure to achieve an established level of full employment and or reasonable interest rates and or commercial health and or reasonable and ethical accounting and investment practices, should result in swift and severe penalties to the officers of the Federal Reserve Bank and to all those who have engaged in unethical or illegal economic activities. If this high level of accountability is not acceptable to an independent Federal Reserve Bank, then the Federal Reserve Bank should be made, by appropriate legislation, into a new institution that is regulated directly and regularly by the President and the Congress, answerable also to the respective Governors and Legislatures of the States.  The economy is the property of the people and it should therefore be regulated by the people and not by a nobility of capitalist gamblers.

An Economic Activities Act should be passed that provides for maintaining high ethical standards for all economic activities that sustain the people's economy.  Limitations should be established on investment gambling and the profits that may be retained thereof.  Congressional resolutions should be passed that establish that an unethical accounting or business practice is inherently also illegal.
